Bowl for Kids Sake and BIGS

What a great event on Saturday April 14. We had many wonderful friends help us raise over $40,000. We had some great Bigs who created teams and raised thousands of dollars, teachers came, and many local businesses supported the effort. It was wonderful. I think that the littles who attended understood that they were helping to raise money so that other children could receive the benefit of a mentor. The Bigs clearly did, I also think they enjoyed the competition. Thanks to all who made this a great event.

Wondering what to do on your next day out?

There are most definitely times when it is hard to come up with new and creative ways to spend time with little brother or sister. The winter seems especially long. I am hopeful that some of our Big Brothers and Sisters will share their ideas with all of us. Mom's and Dad's feel free to add to the discussion.

Movies are fun but Expensive-check out live theater

I went to a movie with my Little sister and was shocked to see how much the movie cost but more importantly a small soda was $5 and small popcorn $6...WOW when did that happen? So I wondered if maybe we could get some insight about live theater. Did you know that you can go to the Dress rehearsals at the Seacoast Rep theater on Bow St in Portsmouth for $10.00. There are also a couple of smaller theaters in town that have great deals. The Players Ring is pretty cool...it is on Marcy Street ...right now they are doing "The Reluctant Dragon" 436-8123-tickets are $10-12. Also in Portsmouth..The Pontine Movement Theater--436-6660-- is a bit more expensive but still under $20 a ticket. Also for great deals consider the Bell Center in Dover NH--742-BELL. We will look around for more great deals and update. If anyone has had experiences in this area please chime in. Live theater can be a really cool idea for kids.

Bowling for Charity

In the next few months Big Brothers Big Sisters will be looking for people to bowl in their oldest national fund raiser: Bowl for Kids Sake. This can be a great way to spend one to one time teaching a child about charity, obligations to our community and also have some fun. Of course for those of us who bowl once every five years the actually bowling might be hazardous to our health. This activity has many options for joint effort and great teachable moments. Teaching a child about giving back to the community while enjoying a little healthy competition can be a great thing! The Youth/Adult team (which maybe a Big and Little but could be a Parent/Child, Aunt/niece ...) will receive an award on April 14th the Big Bowling and Party Day. There will be a celebration with food and fun. Take time to talk with the child in your life and go to our web site www.seacoastbbbs.org click on the Bowl For Kids Sake and find out how easy it is to raise money. If you choose to use the old fashion pledge sheets (which can be fun to spend a few hours in the neighborhood...the old fashioned face to face method!!!)we have lots of those too. Just give us a call: 603-430-1140 (ext 301). If you have a favorite charity with a child friendly fund raiser please add to this discussion.
